The Company was founded in 1864 by Max Gütermann in Vienna.

Three years later he built a factory in Gutach, a village in the Black Forest in Germany, which with its simple supply of soft, clear water, was ideal for the manufacturing and dyeing of silk.

Today, Gütermann is still based in Gutach and run by the same family, but available in over 80 countries around the world, employing a total work workforce of over 2,000 people.
